System Engineer Optics

HTC, Eindhoven, The Netherlands
Full-time

Job overview

We are looking for an experienced and inspiring System Engineer Optics to strengthen our team. In this role, you will take ownership of transferring our advanced printing equipment from design into operation and production. You will organize and structure the introduction of new products and features, next to maintaining the released products of our portfolio.

Working closely with our first-tier suppliers, you ensure that our solutions meet the highest standards of quality, performance, and innovation. This is an opportunity to play an impacting role in a rapidly evolving field with the potential to transform industries. It is a broad engineering role ranging from new product introduction to sustaining our released products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Ownership: Take ownership of the opto-mechanic design and functionality within our LIFT printer, oversee project planning and execution within your scope, ensure alignment with business and technical goals.

  • Requirements Gathering and Analysis: Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanics, electronics and software) to gather and document requirements. Translate customer requirements and performance specifications into clear system requirements.

  • Optical and Laser System Design: Set up and maintain the design for opto-mechanic modules, focusing on the functional integration of all the optical components. Create detailed technical designs and specifications that address performance, scalability, and reliability. Define and document specifications, ensuring system capabilities align with stringent quality and module- and process requirements. Ensure safety structure for safe laser operation according to industry standards.

  • Integration of Laser and Optical Systems with Mechatronics: Design solutions for integrating optical components (lasers, beam shaping optics, scanner, etc) with mechanical stages and software/control systems for high precision in material transfer applications. Manage the interfaces between laser systems, optics and control electronics, ensuring seamless integration and interoperability within the larger system architecture.

  • Control and Precision for LIFT Process Execution: Develop protocols for real-time control of laser parameters (e.g., intensity, pulse duration) and positioning systems to optimize material transfer outcomes and accuracy and achieve required print strategy. Establish methods for (real-time) monitoring and adjusting laser parameters based on material properties, target area, and environmental factors to achieve optimal LIFT deposition results.
  • System Validation and Testing: Develop and implement testing protocols and diagnostics to validate system performance and reliability. Analyze test results and implement necessary modifications to improve system functionality. Set up and maintain optics calibration procedures.

  • Documentation and Compliance: Create comprehensive documentation for system designs, specifications, and testing procedures for QLTC purposes. Ensure all designs comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Research and Development: Stay abreast of the latest technological advancements and trends in opto-mechanics. Evaluate new tools, technologies, and methodologies to enhance system performance and efficiency. Consult in technology roadmap scenarios.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electronics, and software engineers, to gather requirements and ensure successful integration. Present technical concepts and design solutions to non-technical stakeholders in an accessible manner. Engage in and maintain relationships with key suppliers of optics design components.
